One of the best practices that Blendee suggests to increase sales is the inclusion of products aimed at Up Selling and Cross Selling within the pages of your website.
Usually this type of recommendation can be found on the Product Detail Page and on the Cart Page and are closely linked to the contextual value that is tracked: from now, thanks to Blendee, it will be possible to insert them in every area of the website.
This functionality is made possible by the use of the products in the shopping cart to determine those extracted by the algorithm.
Let’s see in detail how to configure recommendations starting from the current product and the products in the cart that can be viewed on each type of page.
Cross Selling
The goal of this configuration is to show within the “product details” page a block of recommended products related to the product that the user is viewing. Such commodity products must have the characteristic of belonging to “similar categories” or in some way related to the current product. In addition to this category, it is then possible to apply additional filters so as to make the recommendation logic that we are going to show more or less refined.
Let’s move from the side menu to WebSites -> Recommendations.
At this point it will be possible to modify the configuration of an existing Recommendation, from the “Edit” -> “Configuration” button, or create a new one by clicking on the “New Recommendation” button at the top.
You’ll need to configure the general information of the recommendation block, including the algorithm type.
To learn more about the complete configuration of a recommendation, see the article “How to create a new recommendation“.
Please note: In general, the logic of the algorithm that we are going to choose (in the case proposed in the example above “trending products”) can be chosen based on the type of products that you want to have Blendee’s artificial intelligence system “analyze”.
Once you have entered the configuration settings, continue with the Conditions step.
In point 7 Mandatory Conditions, click “Add Condition”, from the list of conditions select Cross Category and from the Condition Value drop-down menu, select the category from those in the catalog, from which we would like the products to be suggested.
The “minimum” filter required to trigger cross-selling logics is the “Cross Category” filter. This filter, very particular, is contextual ( see the article on contextual filters/value) which allows you to indicate (in the current case starting from the product detail page) to show in “mandatory” or “suggested” mode only products belonging to well-defined categories.
If you want to apply more refined logics, you can act on the filters offered by Blendee.
In particular, you could, by way of example, show products exclusively belonging to a specific brand, or again, only products that have a discount of at least 10%.
One of the most appreciated features of Blendee is precisely the depth of configuration that can be obtained by applying filters so as to be able to achieve logics that are increasingly similar to those that marketing departments want to adopt.
Up Selling
To apply UpSelling logic, it is necessary to carry out all the operations seen in the previous paragraph dedicated to Cross Selling and add the pricing logic to it. It is understood that the logic that you decide to configure can also be characterized only by product logics. This will depend decisively on the type of catalog and product sector in which you operate.

In the filter area, you can apply the Percentage Price filter. This filter, which is also contextual, allows you to specify the price range (starting from the price of the current product). We will therefore indicate in the case of the example, that we would like to point out to the user all the products:
- Members without a common category
- whose price is between13/25% of the price of the current product
- whose discount is >= 8%
- that there are between 200 and 1000 values available in my warehouse
Up and Cross Selling on the products in the Cart
All of the above paragraphs can be applied (on any page) even starting from the products in the user’s shopping cart (if any).
Starting from the menu on the left, click on Product Recommendation and choose a type of page (of your choice).
Click on the block you want to configure and choose Configura from the context menu:
Within the configuration screen, this time we are going to choose Shopping cart recommendations as the algorithm. An additional drop-down menu will appear that will allow us to indicate the analysis mode to be conducted.
- Based on the cheapest product in the cart
- Based on the most expensive product in your cart
- Based on all products in your cart
These three options allow us to choose the basic logic that the Artificial Intelligence algorithm will adopt.
Please note: In particular, in the latter case, if there are more products (let’s assume 4 products) and you choose to show a range between 4 and 8, the Artificial Intelligence system will return 2 products linked to each product in the cart.
Once this is done, go back to the general recommendations screen and always move starting from the context menu on the right, to filters. You can then add the filters you prefer. To obtain Up and Cross selling results related to the products in the cart, all you have to do is apply the same filters shown in the previous paragraphs.
